On June 5th, NSFOCUS held a media salon called “Predicting Overall Development of Security Industry from RSA Conference” in Beijing. Wu Yunkun, NSFOCUS vice president, gave a key-note speech on “security opportunities under the environment of financial crisis”, summarizing some much-talked-about topics and the trend of the global security industry. Wangwei and Hanyonggang, manager of NSFOCUS Marketing Department and manager of NSFOCUS International Business Development Department respectively, also presented their understandings and views on Web application security and cloud security. Reporters from over 20 media of security industry came to the salon and held thorough discussion on some hot topics.
Vice president Wu Yunkun first introduced key focuses of the security industry that are summed up by NSFOCUS during its on-the-spot investigation of 2009 RSA Conference. He pointed out that “current key focuses of the global security industry lie in: Web application security, cloud computing, GRC, governmental and national security, identity management, and security cooperation, etc.” When asked about the development of the security industry, Wu briefly answered, “To know where the trend goes, we must first know where the value lies in. Where there is value, there will be attacks. Underground industrial chains always target at fields of high value. We security vendors must be right there protecting our customers from possible damages. ” As far as the national security market is concerned, Wu stressed that “three main trends appear in the national security market: Web application security will be widely applied; solutions of high cost performance will mushroom; compliance and supervision will be deepened.”
As a hot spot in the present security industry, Web application security attracts plenty of attention from the media. Wangwei illustrated Web application security in four aspects: the first is why Web application security attracts people’s attention; the second is the market share of Web application security; the third is key technical trend of Web application security; the fourth is about NSFOCUS’ solutions in Web application security. These aspects arouse enthusiastic discussion among present reporters. Wangwei said that “since more and more applications are developed with Web technique, increasing vulnerabilities about Web application arise correspondingly. As a result, attackers gradually turn their target to Web sites.” Meanwhile, Wangwei pointed out that “the value of Web applications, instead of the increase of Web application vulnerabilities, is the direct reason of attack. For most of the organizations, data that is hosted by Web applications is their very important sometimes only asset.” This is a perfect match with president Wu’s opinion.
Could computing and cloud security is also a key focus of the industry. Han Yonggang made a through illustration on this topic, saying that “cloud computing is an upgrade of business mode. This compute mode provides resources in the form of “services” for users through Internet, without any requirement on the user for knowing, understanding or controlling the technical infrastructure that supports these services.” Cloud computing will be a focus of the security industry. “While cloud computing enjoys its fast development, security needs to “walk in the cloud” too. Cloud security will have a bright future in application and cooperation,” Han said.
This media salon not only inspires enthusiastic discussion among attending reporters, but also creates a brand-new communication mode that initiates deeper reflection on security.
